"Sandcastle" – A Surreal Seascape

Sandcastle is a surreal seascape in which a small sandcastle faces certain oblivion in the face of a terrifying wave. The painting's symbology isn't meant to be a subtle metaphor; it needs to be as unsubtle as losing a loved one. This was created and finished as a beloved family member died, making the theme of impermanence in the face of death hang heavy over this work.

It tries to blend dark and expressionistic artwork styles into something that is not overwhelmingly oppressive. Even in the face of the wave, the moon breaks through the rolling clouds and breaks light, even if it comes with little warmth.
